Went in for my first appointment with one of my midwives yesterday. I like them already. She didn’t even flinch when I asked her, oh, a million questions. (Can’t say the same for my poor husband!)
B did commend me for showing great restraint by not taking the doppler out of her hands to find the heartbeat myself. I have one at home so know where to look and knew she wasn’t in quite the right place.
The nice part about that is we got a quick ultrasound to check the heartbeats. One of the babies was clearly trying to burst out already because s/he was pushing with both legs as hard as possible. Very cute. Heart rates look fine. Did figure out why they’re hard to find separately on doppler. One is pretty much right behind the other, so when I did think I heard them both on doppler, there really probably were 2 at a time.
The ultrasound machine was hysterical, though. I think it’s older than me. I don’t think it’s something midwives use much (I assume they usually refer out ultrasounds). The pictures aren’t even worth posting because they O drew them with some stubby charcoal.
In bad news, I found out we’re going to have to sell one of the babies to pay for the delivery. 3 (me+2 babies) deductibles + 3 out of pocket maximums=butt load of money.

Wait, are you assuming these babies will have some sort of a NICU stay that will cause them to have a separate deductible? Because I am here to tell you that I’m praying that they will be with you the whole time, no issues, no deductibles, forever and ever, amen. So then only one deductible, for you.
They have a deductible even for a midwife to look at them in the hospital. They’re separate the second they’re born on this plan.
I’m not assuming they’ll have NICU time, but I’m going to start saving for the possibility.
That sucks about the deductibles. I totally agree about their u/s machine though! I had a couple u/s on there with DS. I was hoping they’d have upgraded the machine when they moved to their “new” office in the hospital, but from your post I guess they didn’t! I will also be delivering my kiddo with them, your refusal to deliver with the K insurance inspired me to make it work, so we are. My first appointment is not for 2 weeks, but I’m excited nonetheless! Glad your wee ones are doing well!
She did say they’re supposed to get a new machine at the beginning of the year
Glad you found a way to make it work!
Wow, we have a family deductible/oop max that isn’t that bad. I’m sorry your insurance sucks. But yay for getting to see the babies, even in sketch form
That’s a bummer about the deductibles. We have individual deductibles/OOP maximums but it caps out in a family ded/oop max which is equivalent to two individuals. So if the individual ded is $500. We won’t pay more than $1k in deds even if all three of us have something come up.
